Newly established program! CAS Academic Ambassadors serve incoming undeclared CAS students via email correspondence to help answer basic academic-related questions. Topics of conversation Ambassadors cover include navigating campus, class schedules, discussing learning styles for different courses and instructors, administrative support for their academic and personal needs, and what led Ambassadors to the academic majors they have chosen for themselves. In response to the BU administration’s lackluster COVID-19 academic policy, members of the CAS Student Government Advocacy branch, alongside leaders in BU Student Government, drafted and proposed the QLSA. It aimed to change current academic policy regarding maintaining academic continuity during the quarantining/isolating process, by having the administration encourage faculty to record lectures for students. Through a comprehensive policy preference survey and a Change.org petition that garnered over 2,800 signatures, Advocacy was able to amass widespread community support. For the first month of the Spring Semester, administrators heard our demands and enacted QLSA by encouraging faculty to record and post lectures for isolating students.

Petition spearheaded by a CAS Senator, more than 5,700 students signed, supported, acknowledged the physical, emotional, mental and financial hardships that would be experienced during the pandemic. Emails, presentations, and phone calls helped established the Spring 2020 academic grade policy change to an optional Credit/No Credit system. Click on image for more information!

In the Fall Semester of 2021, the Advocacy branch worked in partnership with Allston Brighton Mutual Aid (ABMA) to host a community drive for the greater Allston-Brighton community. By collecting a variety of household cleaning and personal hygiene items over the course of 2 weeks in October, Advocacy was able to provide direct aid to over a dozen families in the greater Allston-Brighton community.
